The Beggar and the Faithful dogNo one actually knows that Odysseus is back but when he does come back one creature does recognize him. That is his old dog Argos. Argos comes really exited sniffing him and wagging his tail. Odysseus lets out a tear of joy but tries to hide it. Eumaeus tells the beggar the story of the dog and how his actual owner left to go to Troy and died. He also said how no one at the hall really takes care of him because since there is really no master the servants will not do anything.

At the HallThe beggar is being "bullied" by all the evil suitors but Penelope does no do anything to him. Penelope knows that the beggar knows some information about Odysseus that she invites his at night to her room to talk about him. That night she is talking to the beggar and tells her nurse, Eurycleia , to wash his feet as a sign of respect. As she washes her feet she notices a scar that Odysseus had and Odysseus threatens her if she says something and Athena makes Penelope forget about what just happened. The beggar tells Penelope that Odysseus is alive and that he is coming home already. He had in plan to test his wife and the maids because some have not been loyal. The next day Penelope tests the suitors and this gives Odysseus a way to defeat the men the threatened his wife and kingdom. Athena then tells Odysseus that all the suitors will die because they were all unfaithful.
