Part Two: Coming HomeIn book 13 Odysseus returns to Ithaca but because that place is full of enemies, Athena appears to him and tells him to get disguised as a beggar. In book 14 Odysseus meets Eumaenus and he is a servant but Odysseus has to be in disguise. In epic poetry usually servants being introduced as important characters is unusual. In book 15 Athena appears to Odysseus son and then his son goes out to the journey to go see if his dad is alive or dead.

The Meeting of Father and SonOdysseus was there when he sees that his son has returned the only problem is that Telemachus will not know its him because he is dressed like a beggar. When his son comes he sees that all the herdsmen give him a warm welcome. Telemachus asks for his mother and so the herdsmen go bring her. Meanwhile he is with Odysseus and he offered him a chair and food, also for protection. Athene can not deal with the suspense that she appears to Odysseus and makes him "new" again that when Telemachus comes back he thinks that Odysseus is a god. Odysseus then tells him the truth and tells him that he is his dad. They hug and they are all crying tears of joy the whole day.
